Double-Jacketed Gaskets are another combination of filler material and metallic materials. In this application, a tube with ends that resemble a "C" is made of the metal with an additional piece made to fit inside of the "C" making the tube thickest at the meeting points. The filler is pumped between the shell and piece. When in use the compressed gasket has a larger amount of metal at the two tips where contact is made (due to the shell/piece interaction) and these two places bear the burden of sealing the process. Since all that is needed is a shell and piece, these gaskets can be made from almost any material that can be made into a sheet and a filler can then be inserted. This is an effective option for most applications.

Caf / Non-Asbestos Gaskets:

CAF/Non Asbestos Gaskets are die cut or circle cut from compressed asbestos fibre / non asbestos jointings which are manufactured from carefully selected fibre intimately blended with suitable heat resistant binders etc. and vulcanised into sheets of homogenous compositions and uniform thickness. CAF/Non Asbestos cut gasket seal is effected by yielding or flow of material into the imperfections of joint contact faces. Jacketed / Metallic Gaskets:

Gaskets with a soft pliable core, surrounded by a metal jacket that totally or partially encloses the filler material. Pass partition bars can be incorporated, either integrally or welded into the gasket. Jacket may be corrugated.


Metallic jacketed gaskets are specially designed and widely used for heat exchangers, autoclaves, columns, pressure vessels, flue stacks, boilers, gas mains, valve bonnets, pumps and similar services. The metallic gaskets are manufactured from a soft, pliable filler core surrounded by a metal jacket, chemically and thermally resistant to the working conditions, which may totally or partially enclose the filler.
The majority of these types of gasket are supplied in circular form but can be manufactured to other shapes to suit individual requirements. The method of manufacture enables gaskets to be produced with almost no size limitations. They are produced in different styles to API, ASME DIN and BS standards.

Metal Jacket:

Metallic gaskets are only used in the annealed condition and limit the hardness of the metal in line with international standards as shown.


Selection of the correct filler is important and as standard we use a soft non-asbestos filler. This metallic material is constructed from inorganic fibre and inert fillers, suitably bonded, which produces a material having very similar characteristics to those of asbestos millboard. A data sheet on this material is available on request. Alternative fillers include expanded graphite, PTFE, compressed non-asbestos fibre and ceramic fibre.

Rubber Gaskets:

Rubber is perhaps the most common type of jointing.
If you application involves potable (drinking) water you will require EPDM. Please visit the EPDM Gasket Page, by following the link on the left.

If your application involves water you should consider using neoprene or EPDM. If you require a part with oil and fuel resistance, you should consider nitrile.

The properties of the gasket will depend upon the type of rubber from which it is manufactured.
Parts can be manufactured from the following rubbers: Natural, Neoprene, Nnitrile, EPDM, Silicone, Viton, Ethylene propylene, and Butyl .

Rubbers can be used in a variety of working conditions, and are typically used for water, oils, chemicals; and other low-pressure fluid applications.

Neoprene Rubber Gaskets:
Neoprene rubber gaskets (otherwise known as polychloroprene) exhibit good chemical inertia, and are commonly used in electrical installations and weather sealing applications.
These joints are particularly suitable for use with water; be that salt or fresh water -- although from drinking (potable) water it is better to use EPDM rubber.
Remember that as a general rule you should select the thinnest material possible for your application.

Nitrile Rubber Gaskets:
Nitrile gasketsare particularly suited for use with fats, oils, fuels, and other liquids contaminated by these; they can also be used at a range of temperatures (-40c to +120c depending on grade).
Nitrile rubber is also known as Buna-N, Perbunan, or NBR rubber.

Remember that as a general rule you should select the thinnest material possible for your application.

Silicone Rubber Gaskets:
Silicone rubber gaskets are known for their chemical inertia and as such are useful in extreme environments, and temperatures from -55°C to +300°C.

Due to their chemical stability they are also useful in the pharmaceutical and food processing industries.

Remember that as a general rule you should select the thinnest material possible for your application.

EPDM Rubber Gaskets:
EPDM rubber gaskets are used in anti-vibration, sealing, and electrical insulation applications.
These parts are widely used in the water industry, are WRAS approved, and sutible for use with potable drinking water.

EPDM is short for ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber.
Remember that as a general rule you should select the thinnest material possible for your application.

Viton Rubber Gaskets:
Viton rubber gaskets are used in the presence of aggressive chemicals, fuels, and explosive gases.
Remember that as a general rule you should select the thinnest material possible for your application.
Parts are available in a range of bore sizes and tables; and either full faced (with bolt holes) or inner bolt circle (IBC or ring type joints).

How they work:

Hints Of Installation & Maintenance:

When installing a Spiral Wound Gasket, check the dimensions of the Gaskets for use between pipe and pressure vessel flanges. The procedure is as follows
Measure ID of flange contact face.

Measure Gasket ID. If Gasket ID is not 1/8″ larger than flange ID, do not use it unless it can be installed perfectly centered.

A Spiral Wound Gasket does not have the same feel as other Metallic or Non-Metallic Gaskets during the bolting-up. It's different-because it gives a little bit under each bolt as it is tightened. It is therefore important to tighten the bolts in small steps in proper sequence as shown hereunder. Final tightening must be uniform with each bolt pulling same load. This will guarantee a trouble free joint. If not uniform, the joint may leak-particularly after it has been in hot service. Tighten the bolts after 24 hours and again a week later.
